Chris Hoffman

Chris Hoffman is a veteran California educator and school leader with more than 30 years of experience. Throughout his career in public education, Mr. Hoffman has served diverse student populations in communities across Northern California, including Elk Grove, Lodi, Sacramento, and the Sierra foothills. Most recently, he served as Superintendent of Elk Grove Unified School District from 2014 to 2025, leading one of California's largest school districts with more than 62,000 students across 68 schools.

Mr. Hoffman has been recognized for building high-performing leadership teams, cultivating strong relationships with governing boards and labor partners, maintaining fiscal stewardship, and recruiting and developing talented educational leaders

During his tenure at Elk Grove Unified, the district expanded access to career technical education pathways, strengthened college and career readiness initiatives, advanced equity-focused instructional practices, and invested in modernizing school facilities and technology infrastructure. Under his leadership, the district also completed major capital improvement projects while expanding student wellness and support services.

Prior to leading Elk Grove Unified, Mr. Hoffman served as Superintendent of the El Dorado Union High School District from 2010-2014, following two years as an Associate Superintendent. Earlier in his career, he served as principal of Tokay High School and Mira Loma High School, leading school improvement efforts focused on instructional excellence, positive school culture, and increased academic performance.

A graduate of Elk Grove Unified schools, Mr. Hoffman began his career in the district in 1992 as a social science teacher.

Mr. Hoffman earned his M.A. in education from the University of La Verne, where he also holds an administrative credential. He earned a B.A. in social science and an administrative credential from California State University, Sacramento. He received his teaching credential from Chapman University.
